Overijssel

Forests, streams and farms feature the landscape of Overijssel. Overijssel is located in the east of the Netherlands. Hidden in the green are dozens of estates, farmhouses and water mills. Cyclists and hikers are central to this province and you can use an extensive bike network while driving motorized traffic.

Twente

Twente is a region in Overijssel and breathtakingly beautiful. Summer and autumn are the ideal periods to take a few moments. Lovely cycling and hiking through the Twente countryside. Discover and experience Twente and taste the most delicious products during these routes! A stay at a hotel, B & B or if you want to camp at one of the many campsites in Twente.

In the eastern part of Overijssel lies Twente and it borders neighboring Germany.

In this area the area is hilly. The area just across the border with Germany is not forgotten by Holland Travel. If you want, we can take a piece of Germany on your bike route. Twente offers beautiful hilly routes through nature, along old hills, water mills and churches.

If you want to do one of Holland Travels cycling tours in Twente, you may have to make a small climb every now and then. On the way you will undoubtedly spot frogs, adders, tree falcons, kicks, claws and pipes. The most special flora are the marshy brook valley and the peatlands.

During one of our cycling holidays of Holland Travel through the National Landscape of Northeast Twente The Denekamp, The Lutte, Losser, Oostmarsum, Tubbergen and Weerselo  are beautiful places to stop and visit.

The cycling and hiking trails allow trips from a few kilometers up to 40 kilometers. You can make it as challenging as you like. Along the routes you will find Rust points where you can get a cup of coffee or tea for a small fee.

Some cycling routes from Holland Travel will also take you to Ootmarsum. Here you will be given the opportunity to stay in one of the many Bed and Breakfasts.

Singraven offers a versatile landscape with forests, lanes, fields, meadows, marshes, and the ever-present Dinkel. The estate has surprisingly much to offer: captivating cultural history, relaxing and interesting nature, active recreational opportunities such as cycling or hiking through this beautiful nature.

You can go hiking on the Singraven estate while you can drink something after dinner or you can eat a bite before continuing your cycling trip.

 

From Singraven you can also continue your cycling trip towards to the  town of Delden.

To castle Twickel

Here you cycle along or through rolling fields and meadows, forests and ancient oaks, heathlands and friends. Between them are beaks and woodwalls winding.

Twickel

Near Delden you will find Castle Twickel. A beautiful estate of about 4000 hectares.

On the estate there are about one hundred and fifty farms, recognizable by black and white shutters, and other buildings such as two water mills, the water tower and the wood sawmill.

Next to the castle is a large garden where you can find large citrus trees, some of which are already 300 years old. Next to the park is a walled vegetable garden with authentic greenhouses and leifruit. Here are grown vegetables, fruits and flowers as usual.

Via Twickel you can cycle over the “Borkeld” towards the National Park de Sallandse Heuvelrug.

In the beautiful nature area De Borkeld at Markelo, a beautiful herd of Drentse Heideschapen grazes. These sheep are used to maintain the nature reserve through burial. It is definitely worth visiting the shepherd with his herd during a walking or cycling tour. The shepherd is happy to answer your questions.

For Dutch terms, the Sallandse Heuvelrug has unprecedented vast areas. The views of the rolling heides and forests are breathtaking. If you are looking for rest then you will find it here.

The visitor center of Sallandse Heuvelrug has a wide range of cycling and hiking routes, varying in length. Next to the visitor center lies the Natural Diorama Holterberg, which provides text and explanation about the flora and fauna of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. A visit to this museum is worthwhile for nature lovers of all ages.

Ootmarsum

Ootmarsum is truly a tourist attraction of northeastern Twente. The old nostalgic city center revives ancient times. You are cycling back in time as it were.

Ootmarsum is famous for her love for art. Ootmarsum has not been proclaimed for nothing as an art city of the East. Here you can admire paintings, ceramics, sculptures and glass art.

In Ootmarsum you enjoy not only art but also the special culture atmosphere.

In Ootmarsum there is a lot to see, including the open air museum, estates, museums, galleries, artists and even a star guard with one of the largest telescopes in the Netherlands. You can also find cozy terraces, restaurants.

Sallandse Heuvelrug

National Park The Sallandse Heuvelrug  is an extensive nature reserve consisting of forests and heathlands. The heath is even one of the longest connected herds of Europe. The tie, fox, ree, bunzing, stone marshland and some 75 species of birds form the permanent residents of the area. There are various viewpoints on the Sallandse Heuvelrug  from where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and flora and fauna.

Juniper bushes and white birches belong to the characteristic flora of the area. The inhabitants of Salland used to see these plants for ghosts and white whites, also witches. If you walk on a quiet and foggy morning over the Sallandse Heuvelrug  you will understand this mistake.
